           Galway, Ireland

                                                     Gaillimh, Éire

How it all began...

Fáilte!
I
am Rick Lyons, originally from Murphys, California.   The Irish ancestry on my father's side, stems from County Galway.  My love affair with this lovely city first began upon my arrival, in May of 2016.

Without meeting anyone yet, I stepped-off the train onto Galway soil,  and I knew I was home.   The feeling that came over me was undeniable.  It was a sensation I'd never experienced anywhere else before!  I liken it to when someone experiences "Love at first sight", only instead of a person, I fell in love with this place.

Ever since my first visit, I've been back numerous times... each visit, researching more, and staying longer than the previous visits... growing more in love with Galway.   My Galwegian friends told me that I know more about their fair city than many of the locals, and named me, "The Local Tourist".  I was honoured!
I've explored the ins and outs of the city, and will share my findings with you.  Some are popular, and other places are lovely, fairly hidden places that even the locals rarely see, or even know about.  In this blog, I will cover sights, restaurants, bars/pubs, local music talents, and just about anything else I can think of.

This page will be a continual work in progress, and I will post as often as time permits, so bear with me.

I hope you enjoy this journey into my favourite place in the world!

Some important things to know, to get you started...
